　　一天，“小美人鱼”正在海边玩，突然发现一位王子溺水了。“小美人鱼”奋力救活了这位王子，同时也深深地爱上了他。为了能跟王子长相厮守，她找到了海底的女巫师，请求把自己的鱼尾变成人的双腿。但巫师提出，要以“小美人鱼”银铃般的声音作为交换。巫师还警告说，一旦王子日后移情别恋，她就会变成海上的泡沫死去。为了追求爱情，这些都没有让“小美人鱼”动摇，她毅然喝下了变身药水，尾巴变成了修长的美腿。可她从此也失去了说话的功能。

　　谁料就在这个时候，另一位美丽的公主闯了进来。这位公主唤醒仍在昏迷中的王子。王子误以为是她救了自己，两人一下子坠入爱河。可怜的'“小美人鱼”已经不能说话，无法向王子表述自己的所作所为和对他的爱慕之情，只能一个人默默地伤心落泪。
